MM... FOOD

The constructed bug hotel in the garden departs from an approximation to the empty fridge in our equally empty air bnb room at our apartment. Its silhouette is saved whereas its interior and facade is developed further. The facade of the hotel is inscribed with drawings based on a 1:1 reproduction of samples of bark beetle patterns I collected in Østmarka, Oslo. The interior is decorated as an insect hotel, capable of hosting a variety of garden insects. On the inauguration of the bug hotel visitors could check in with me as an insect of their choice. Upon completion of registration they received a portion of edible insects in a cup which carries the name of the insect they checked in as. Inside the exhibition space I realized a mural and several engravings, which read the names of the worldwide most consumed edible insects in a handstyle writing influenced by bark beetle patterns. During a workshop visitors were invited to write and draw their insect alias on the concrete floors surrounding Nitja. Sticking to the music-inspired theme of the exhibition, the title of the project refers to the album by MF Doom, the British-American rapper who was denied reentry to the USA after having lived there for the majority of his life.
